    Rico's Pizza Restaurant

Objective: I can sing s-l-m on pitch and in tune.

 

Materials: iPads (4) or laptops, IWB file or visual of the song, Google survey created, QR code or tiny url of google link, optional: tables, table clothes, scrap paper, pizza trays or boxes

 

Process: 

  • Warm up on the ladder using s-l-m-r-d.

  • Teach the song.

  • Model the job of the waitress and take an order from the class.

 

New Day:

  • Show students how to scan the QR code and create an order.

  • Project the ipad or laptop so students can see your work.

  • Ask students to evaluate your performance using the provided rubric.

  • Divide the class into groups.  Sit at tables and order pizza.

  • Switch servers each round.  

Sock Puppets

Objective: Students will be able to sing a short improvised melody using at least two pitches (s-m). 

 

Materials: 6-12 ipads, free sock puppets app (or current recording app), speakers and a cable to your iPad, VGA adaptor to connect the iPad to a projector

 

Process: 

  • Play a singing game with puppets.  (Twang and Fang lesson in Gameplan 1 by Jeff and Randy) 

  • Project the iPad and open Sock Puppets app.

  • Create a scene and choose two characters.  

  • Practice the song (twang and fang) with the class.  

  • When ready, record the song.  Teacher sings as one character and the students sing together as the other puppet character.  

  • Wait while the program saves the recording.  Play back the recording.  (Make sure your iPad is hooked up to speakers so the class can hear the recording well.)

  • Define good singing as a class.  Create a short rubric.

  • Create a new scene and new characters.  

  • When ready, record and sing again.

  •  As a group, reflect on how the performance using “I wonder, I value, I noticed.”

 

New Day

  • Divide students into groups by how many iPads you have.  2-3 per iPad is ideal.  Let them play a little.

  • Meet as a whole group away from the iPads.  Ask them to come up with two questions and answers that they could sing to each other.  

  • Create a scene, choose characters, and practice their skit.

  • When ready, record and then play back.

  • Teacher walks around and listen and assesses singing voices using the rubric students created.

 

New Day

  • Tell them that today they will assess their classmates so ask them to listen carefully to each other.  Review what good singing looks and sounds like.  This is what they will want to listen for when assessing their classmates.

  • Break into groups and teacher assesses using rubric and offers feedback to groups.  

  • Leave time to have each student assess their group members.  

Hiding Phil by Eric Barclay

Objective:  I can sing two pitches with my gentle singing voice.

 

Materials:  Hiding Phil by Eric Barclay, ISBN 978-0-545-46477-2, iPad, Speakers, Cable to connect sound to the iPad.  You will need a connector with a stereo mini on one end that connects to the iPad's headphone jack and RCA cables to connect to your sound system, Tellegami App, QR Reader (i.e i-nigma) Optional:  Reflector for the laptop

 

Activity 1:  Read the book and ocassionaly stop to sing the song, "Phil is Hiding". (see music below)

 

Activity 2:  Have all students close their eyes and have one student hide in the room.  Everyone sings, "Phil is hiding ev'rywhere."  Hiding soloist sings, "Yoo-hoo!  Yoo-hoo!  I'm right here".  Students with their eyes still closed point where they heard the sound.  Tell them they may open their eyes and see if they pointed in the right direction.  

 

Assessment:  

4-A gentle singing voice was used with accurate pitches on all notes (s-m-d) and in tempo.

3-A gentle singing voice was used wtih accurate pitches on s-m and in tempo.

2-A singing voice was used with inaccurate pitches or a silly voice was used with inaccurate pitch and/or rhythm.

1-There was not a singing voice yet.
