In second grade, we studied the themes of Peter and the Wolf and how the musical choices matched and enhanced the characters in the story. After reading the story, matching the themes with the characters, we took it a step further. We used shadow puppets as a way to extend our learning and practice our own expressive qualities. Some students chose to use their bodies to create a tableau with friends, others chose to work alone and create their own puppet. Materials were donated by families and a deadline was set. Students recorded themselves and uploaded to Seesaw by the deadline. This video is a collection of their posted work and includes one second grader who played the themes on piano and provided a soundtrack for us. Students are now connected to Peter and the Wolf in a new way!
